Starting in July 2020, while most part of Australia were arising from the first lock down caused by the first wave of COVID-19, Melbourne (which is the city I am living in) was struck by the so-called second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.

You can see the detail timeline of the events triggered Melbourne’s (and Victoria) 2nd COVID lock down here.

Like every other Melbournian, I was being confined into my home and at the sametime nervously waiting and checking the COVID case numbers everyday from the Victoria department of Health.

Initially, the delivery of the daily case number information was through Victoria Premier’s daily live TV briefing. However, it had become obvisoue that this was a slow and inefficient way of delivery critical information to millions of Victorians that were keen to find out such information. The health department then started using sociamedia(Twitter) to deliver case information everyday.

This was also when I started my little project to track and update COVID status in Victoria.

The idea was simply to collect information that were important on a daily basis. Status such as new cases per day, active cases in every postcode and number of death per day etc.

You can check out the project here.
